Inspiration
Brains vs Rots takes gameplay inspiration from popular titles such as Plants vs Zombies, and Plants vs Brainrots. We have created a fresh take on this genre with a vibrant and interesting 'Utopian Scolastic' art style.
What it does
Buy defenders in the shop, place them in the lanes and collect the defeated Brainrots to earn cash!
How we built it
Our team consists of 3 engineer, 1 designer, and 1 artist.
Challenges we ran into
Creating multiplayer games is always a challenge, both implementation wise and designing them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
With a small team we all had to find ways to contribute outside our respective disciplines, with design doing some programmer tasks, and artist contributing to the design vision. We are also proud that we were able to create all 3D assets using Horizons Gen AI.
What we learned
On the surface level, incremental games seem to be a simple genre to have as a base while designing a new game, but simple concepts can be challenging to work with when the goal is to further iterate on the genre.
What's next for Brains vs Rots
We want to introduce more progression systems, give the player multiple ways to customize their experience and add more elements where the player input can maximize the performance of the “lanes”.
Ensuring that the game can handle multiple updates over time, we want to introduce classic elements that incremental games have, mutation and some sort of a prestige system.
Giving the player the opportunity to either purchase or grind for various ways to change up their character or environment will give the game more depth and meaning for the player.
