Inspiration
We started Homii from a simple but powerful question: “What if solo travelers could feel like they already have friends in every city they visit?”
After hosting over 100 travelers in Osaka and seeing how human connections made trips truly memorable, we wanted to create an app that makes these encounters natural and effortless.

About Build in Public: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaAWUX3Npxc
Challenges we ran into
- Simplifying the core value: Avoiding feature overload and narrowing down to one promise — “meet people”
- Onboarding design: Reducing stress from too many inputs, making the first experience fun and intuitive
- Getting real reactions in Build in Public: Iterating until we reached genuine engagement and feedback
- Map UI/UX: Preventing information overload while creating smooth, people-centered, animated interactions
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
- Launched the mobile app (iOS & Android)
- Successful pivot: From a “travel super-app” vision to focusing entirely on “meeting people while traveling”
- Community co-creation: Users began posting profiles and spots themselves, sharing naturally on social media
- Full-commitment team: An engineer left a large company, the designer dedicated full-time, and we spent 20 days co-living to build intensely

What we learned
- Simplicity is the key to clarity: Focusing on “meet people while traveling” made the app instantly understandable
- Travelers seek people, not information: Profiles and chats lit up users’ eyes far more than tourist spot details
- Public sharing drives momentum: Daily/weekly updates in Build in Public created accountability and accelerated development speed
- User involvement grows the product organically: Feedback and user-posted spots directly shaped improvements
