Inspiration

Since the COVID-19 has been cause the “lockdown” around the whole world and more people started being aware of the seriousness of what the pandemic brings to us, that is the reason why we choose to implement a website to evoke the importance of social distance for preventing the pandemic through this hackathon.

What it does

In our application, people can check whether the trend of new COVID-19 cases within a country is increasing or decreasing. This will prevent many new cases of coronavirus within countries. If people are aware of the potential increase in new cases of COVID-19 in the near future, they are more likely to follow lockdown rules and won't travel to friends or relatives. Thus, them following lockdown rules will define a new trend in the decreasing number of new coronavirus cases. Stay safe and let's take care of each other!

How we built it

We wanted to use data to help us understand COVID-19 better. We decided to research where people were traveling during lockdowns. Using the Google Global Mobility Report, we found that as soon as lockdown started people began traveling more to friends or relatives' houses as the restrictions to travel to the grocery or take the train became more strict. Lockdowns are difficult and sometimes good company is all you need. While lockdowns are still in effect, remember to follow CDC guidelines for staying safe. It's hard for many people to not be social, so we wanted to make sure as many people as possible to stay safe.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges while implementing this project is how to combine different part of teammate's work together on the website platform, which each part was written by different coding languages.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Through this project, we combine machine learning, data science, front end, back end, and UI together. Also, the front end and back end part need a good communication to understand how to optimize sending and operating our ideas to the public and we are proud to establish a productive environment.

What we learned

We learned about how to combine different professional programming skills into a whole project, such as front end and backend development, UI design, machine learning and data science, etc. Teamwork is important in order to keep this project consistent.

What's next for CoPrevent

We can improve the website's front end more smoothly and the machine learning part to predict more data about COVID 19 cases. Cloud services would be used to streamline the process of continuous delivery of up-to-date datasets to ensure the best awareness from analytics and predictions.
