GME TO THE MOON

Inspiration

Here at PTP- Power to the Player, we care about financial literacy! We want to teach individuals about financial literacy through the GME stock fiasco and appeal to youth using a discord bot. Plus, who doesn't like seeing a graph go up and down super quick 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀.

What it does

The discord bot displays the price of your favourite GME stocks on discord based on the current market value and the market value over the duration of time and interval you specify. Alongside this, the bot can be added to any user's discord using our website link. The website also displays two comprehensive ticker plots that display 100 points at 1-minute intervals. These values will update as the market opens and begins to fluctuate.

How we built it

The discord bot was built using python and the data was scrapped and collected using YFinance's python library. The website was built using React.js that compiles a project with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. All languages we had never worked with. The data was scrapped and parsed using Alphavantage API and was plotted using Plot.ly. The website was then hosted through GitHub and a custom domain was created using domain.com => website link.

Challenges we ran into

Learning a new language or using a new API is always a challenge, and having created a project where just about everything other than python is a new language or API was full of its challenges. When making the website we started off in glitch however we're unable to use packages and very quickly switched to react and a GitHub repository to work on the project together. Furthermore, with the website having never hosted anything using GITHUB it was a pretty tedious process all and all. With the discord bot. finance doesn't play nice with short intervals over long periods, their implementation was deliberated over until we concluded it would be optional.
