Inspiration

Initially, it was difficult to come up with a novel idea for our app. We started by researching problems that affected our school and personal lives that could be solved through a digital mobile platform. As we began to talk more and get to know each other, we realized that we all shared a passion for the arts, and participated in the art programs at our school. Creating an app that helped kindle our passion and inspire others was the perfect way to go for us! We worked out the kinks and possible issues that could come up, and came up with a design that performed well for our needs and ideas.

What it does

We created an app where artists from our school can share their works online, among their peers and fellow creators. Artists will be able to easily upload their work, and communicate with each other in a judgement-free safe zone. The Green Hope community will once more be able to discuss and share work, to receive feedback and encouragement for future projects.

How I built it

We used MIT App Inventor to build the app. We also used extensions for the login page and to store our data.

Challenges I ran into

We did have some trouble communicating with each other. In a virtual setting, it was hard to express ourselves clearly and engage easily in conversations. We used video calls and met once or twice a week to discuss our goals, and check in with each other. But often, we were met with blank screens or silence because we just didn’t know each other well enough to truly show up to each other. Eventually, we opened up. We began seeing more of each other’s faces and hearing each other’s voices as we started to bond and feel more comfortable as a team, and it became easier to talk and help each other out.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Right off the bat, we realized that we were very good with maintaining our deadlines, and completing our work according to our personal timelines. We used this to our advantage, deciding on a plan to follow during our first few meetings and helping each other get back on track when we stumbled.

What I learned

The Ready, Set, App competition gave us the opportunity to get to know each other, our different experiences and diverse skill sets a lot better, and let us represent our diverse school. The unique perspectives that each team member had helped us to learn how to share our ideas and collaborate to make a professional app that was helpful for our community.

What's next for test

We would like add a comment feature on the artworks so people can respond and interact, as well as a "like" button.
