Inspiration

Help people understand how traffic works.

What it does

Our project alternates between flashing 3 LED lights in various blinking patterns. (Red, yellow, and green)

How we built it

Using a breadboard, Arduino, LEDs, and resistors, we rigged separate circuits to different ports. The. Using the Arduino IDE which uses C++, we coded the lights to flash individually.

Challenges we ran into

We originally planned to utilize a sound sensor and motion detector as well as AI to analyze traffic patterns. Whether that would be foot traffic, car traffic, or air traffic, we wanted to see if we could create an application that could analyze and predict traffic flow. We over-estimated our learning speed and time constraints as no one in our team had previous experience with hardware. Our project gradually evolved from analyzing traffic patterns, to creating a simpler project with blinking lights.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our project has separate circuits to control each light.

What we learned

We learned the basics of how Arduino and breadboards work as well as simple circuits. Additionally, we learned what a resistor looks like and how important it is in a circuit. (We accidentally burnt out an LED)

What's next for Red Light Green Light

We would like to create either an educational game for young children that utilizes the color and number of time the LEDs blink or a morse code interpreter and translator with a button.
