My Journey

Inspiration

I created Terra Pulse after witnessing the disconnect between complex climate data and public understanding. Seeing how data visualization could transform abstract numbers into powerful stories, I wanted to build a platform that would make climate science accessible to everyone, regardless of their scientific background.

What I Learned

Building Terra Pulse taught me:

  • Balancing scientific accuracy with user-friendly interfaces
  • Creating engaging animations that highlight climate patterns without distracting from the data

How I Built It

I approached this project by first researching reliable climate data sources and identifying key metrics that tell the most compelling story. I built the frontend with React and TypeScript, using Framer Motion for fluid animations and Tailwind CSS for responsive design. For data processing, I created a pipeline that transforms raw climate datasets into optimized formats for web visualization.

Challenges

The biggest challenges included:

  • Making complex climate data accessible without oversimplification
  • Creating visualizations that work across different screen sizes and devices
  • Optimizing performance when rendering large datasets
  • Balancing educational content with calls to action
  • Ensuring the UI remained engaging while respecting the seriousness of the topic

These challenges pushed me to improve both my technical skills and my understanding of effective climate communication.
