Inspiration
As college students, all three of us have experienced being in need of something but being too broke to buy it or too lazy to go back home for it. Inspired by various "free stuff" chats we've seen pop up here and there, we decided to create a platform to facilitate an exchange of free goods campus-wide. Not only would this be an opportunity for those in need to access things that might have ended up in another student's trash pile, but it will also enable greater sustainability across campus and foster a sense of community and solidarity.
What it does
Our prototype allows you to either post items you no longer need in order to allow UMD students an opportunity to request them or find items you currently need by searching through current posts or submitting a request. Everything posted on the app is available for free to other UMD students.
How we built it
We used Adobe XD to prototype our app, since the platform is excellent at simulating a true UX design experience.
Challenges we ran into
2 out of 3 team members had never used Adobe XD prior to hacking, and the third had very limited experience with the platform. As such, we had to do a lot of troubleshooting and learning on the go.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the UI design of the prototype and the aesthetic experience it offers viewers. More than that, we're proud of the concrete ways in which it will allow students to help close the resource gap across campus and practice sustainability.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the process of collaboration and incorporating everyone's ideas.
What's next for Terp Traders
Testing, revision, and then expansion to other campuses!
