Inspiration

Our group discussed how it can be overwhelming and difficult choosing options from the large amount of food, activities, and study locations available on and off campus. We wanted to create a web application that not only offers a simple solution to this common dilemma, but encourages students to seek out food, activities, or locations they typically wouldn't explore.

What it does

Our website would feature a magic 8 ball with responses based on specific categories. Responses will be generated when the user clicks on the 8 ball.

How we built it

We built our website using Visual Studio Code. To mimic our prototype's design, we relied heavily on html and css. For the magic 8 ball animation and to generate user responses, we used javascript.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was the learning curve in react and javascript. No member in the group had adequate experience in react and javascript, and it was difficult finding where to start with our learning and coding.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are most proud of recreating our homepage's design through code. We believe our design is aesthetically pleasing, simple, and perfectly mimics our prototype.

What we learned

Through this project we learned the basics in javascript and refreshed our knowledge in html and css. We learned how to integrate 3 different languages into visual studio code to produce the website.

What's next for Terp Sphere

We hope that once we learn more of react and javascript, we can implement more of our ideas that would elevate the website. For example, we hope to implement a feature where a user can click on the suggestion, or hover over it using their mouse, to reveal key facts of their suggestion. This includes its location, average rating on google, and the best time to visit. Also, we hope to include an animation of the magic 8 ball shaking before it reveals a suggestion.
