Inspiration
What inspired us was being able to create something unique and different from the rest of the projects. We were genuinely tired of having a slow terminal, and wanted to have something better. All of the other terminals available open source were all slow or were just not good enough. Additionally, the help of AI is also very needed when coding in tense situations such as hackathons like this.
What it does
Our terminal has an ai assistant that helps you navigate complex tasks you wish to do with command lines. It's also able to save pre-existing command lines which allows you work on previous projects in continuation without losing any progress. In addition to this it comes with a fully customizable User Interface, allowing you to have fun with the platform.
How we built it
Through using APIs and databases like Cohere and DynamoDB, we were able to produce this project to its fullest. By using DynamoDB, saving pre-existing command lines became 10x easier due to the ease of use of the AWS systems. Not only that, but user preferences become easier to keep with the use of this Dynamo Database. AI was also made easy to implement with the help of Cohere.
Challenges we ran into
Our original project was a combination of a hardware/software device that would detect when a person is about to faint. Unfortunately we did not receive many parts and had to scratch the idea and focus on something else. Our original idea took quite some time to ideate, plan, and start building. It was only around 1/3 of the way through the hackathon that we realized the idea would not be able to work. At this point we were still determined to come up with a cool project in the software scope, so we came up with Termino.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to finish an entire project from start to finish given the fact that we had almost half the time as other groups. We were also able to learn a lot of new skills and software that none of us were familiar with before .
What we learned
We learned how to work together as a team, manage tight deadlines, but at the same time improved on our individual technical skills. Some of us improved in Java, some in Database Systems, and some in APIs. The amount of learning was endless with every hour teaching us a new lesson/skill.
What's next for Termino
Termino has endless possibilities for the future, but one of the next projects is integrating collaborative coding for users, allowing users to work together on projects.
