Inspiration

  • We wanted to create an easy to use resume maker that anyone could use. The applications core focus is to assist people with disabilities such as those that are visually impaired.
  • We wanted to create a tool that provided value to people who feel stuck in their current career, or for those that want to explore different fields that matched their skill set.
  • We had to pivot to a project that was simpler in nature to adapt to the constraint of the time frame provided by the hackathon.

What it does

The user enters their current or past career into our interactive user interface. Our application then displays a list of technical skills typically associated with the given career and the user selects the skills they have experience with. After that, our AI powered application then returns other careers that contains similar technical skills.

How we built it

We constructed our app with Java Spring Boot as our back-end language and framework. We used Rust YEW as our front-end language and framework. Built a custom, Python based web scraper for generating data sets which is then supplied in Tensorflow Keras dense neural network sequential model.

Challenges we ran into

  • Working with novel technologies
  • Figuring out how to best incorporate the AI within the time frame given

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Learned new technology
  • Implemented AI in some form
  • Created several servers
  • Complied our own data set using a custom-built scrapper (from publicly available sources)
  • Rust powered for the front-end

What we learned

  • We utilized IBM's LinuxONE for training and using an AI model.
  • We integrated our various technological skill sets to create something greater than what we could have accomplished alone.
  • We learned to budget time according to our scope which in our case in an 24 hour event.

What's next for TeraNibble FindJobHelperAI

In the near future, we want to expand our original vision of creating an accessible resume helper powered by AI to help assist those in creating resume or offer viable pathways to explore different careers.
