Inspiration
TeraHealth was inspired by the growing need for accessible and reliable healthcare, particularly during the pandemic when many faced difficulties in getting timely medical advice. We wanted to create a solution that would bridge the gap between individuals and healthcare providers, offering expert guidance in real-time, wherever and whenever it’s needed.
What it does
TeraHealth is an AI-powered chatbot that provides personalized health advice to users. It combines existing AI technologies with trusted health resources to give accurate, on-demand medical support. Users can interact with the chatbot for a wide range of health-related inquiries, receive location-based health information, and join a virtual queue system for scheduled online consultations.
How we built it
We used existing AI technology to create the chatbot, leveraging pre-trained models that could deliver accurate, empathetic responses. The backend was developed using Python and Node.js, integrating the AI with verified health data from trusted resources like the CDC and WHO. For the frontend, we used React to build a clean, responsive interface that works on all devices. We also implemented a secure cloud-based database to ensure user data is kept private and compliant with healthcare standards
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was fine-tuning the existing AI to meet our specific healthcare use cases. We also had to ensure that the AI provided accurate advice without overstepping its limitations, which required rigorous testing and refinement. Additionally, managing user data securely while adhering to privacy regulations like HIPAA was a complex task given the time constraints of the hackathon. Building user trust in the system was also a key challenge, and we addressed it through transparency and clear communication.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the fact that we were able to create a working prototype in such a short amount of time. Despite the hackathon’s constraints, we were able to integrate AI technologies, build a secure system for data handling, and develop a user-friendly interface. The project’s potential to help people manage their health and access healthcare services efficiently is a significant accomplishment.
What we learned
Throughout the hackathon, we learned how to leverage existing AI tools to solve real-world problems, saving time while still delivering a high-quality product. We also gained experience working within strict privacy regulations and learned how to design a system that balances security with user-friendliness. Additionally, we learned how to prioritize user needs, especially in a healthcare context, and how to build trust through transparency and clear communication.
What's next for TeraHealth
Next, we plan to refine the platform further, expanding the AI's capabilities to cover a broader range of health concerns and making it more personalized. We also intend to integrate video consultation features for users who need face-to-face virtual doctor visits. Additionally, we will focus on improving data security measures and compliance with more regional healthcare regulations. Ultimately, we aim to scale TeraHealth to be an accessible, global healthcare tool that provides trustworthy advice to people everywhere.
