Inspiration
Tequila was born from a desire to shape a workspace around personal workflow rather than adapting to fixed interfaces. Leveraging my background in fashion design, fashion management, and 2D/3D creative production, I set out to bridge visual hierarchy, aesthetics, and software engineering into a native macOS productivity tool.
What it does
Tequila unifies six essential everyday productivity workflows into a single, seamless native environment:
Focus: Daily chronological scheduling, priority management, and count-up/countdown day counters for key milestones.
Timer: Custom project folder organization with count-up/countdown focus timers.
Calendar: Customizable visual layouts, colors, typography, and schedule exports.
Mail: Unified workspace for multi-account email integration (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Proton Mail, 163 Mail, QQ Mail).
Logs: Research, notes, and project documentation structured with folders, images, and tables.
Settings: Deep visual personalization, allowing users to customize backgrounds, typography, and colors to suit their working habits.
How we built it
Tequila was built natively for macOS using Swift, SwiftUI, and AppKit to deliver a performant desktop experience across both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Rather than wrapping a web app into an electron container, I leveraged native macOS frameworks to ensure smooth system integration, fluid animations, and a cohesive design system.
Challenges we ran into
Protocol Integration & Security: Integrating multi-account email protocols (IMAP/SMTP) across diverse providers while maintaining a clean, responsive UI without blocking the main execution thread.
Balancing Customization and Structure: Designing a customizable visual system (backgrounds, custom typography, color themes) while preserving readability, visual hierarchy, and precise alignment across six distinct modules.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Full-Stack Execution: Successfully designed, engineered, and publicly released a fully functional, open-source native macOS application independently.
Product Evolution: Iterated from v1.0 to v1.2, implementing community feature requests such as language precision and advanced day counters in the Focus module.
Cross-Disciplinary Bridge: Seamlessly translated concepts from fashion and visual design into interactive digital architecture and functional Swift code.
What we learned
Building Tequila reinforced that interface design is not merely a cosmetic layer, but an integral part of user experience and workflow ergonomics. I deepened my knowledge of native macOS system architectures, state management in SwiftUI, thread management for external protocols, and the iterative cycle of open-source software development (Build → Release → Gather Feedback → Improve).
What's next for Tequila
Cloud & Cross-Device Sync: Implementing iCloud sync to seamlessly share schedules and logs across multiple macOS/iOS devices.
Extended API Integrations: Introducing third-party calendar sync and plugin architecture for extended productivity tools.
Performance Optimizations: Continuous refinement of memory usage during multi-account mail fetching and advanced Markdown rendering in the Logs module.
