Indonesia experiences frequent natural disasters yet the biggest challenge is often not the lack of donations but the inefficient distribution of aid. Relief supplies tend to accumulate at easily accessible evacuation centers while remote locations remain underserved. We were inspired to create a solution that ensures humanitarian assistance is distributed fairly, efficiently and based on real-time needs rather than assumptions.
TepatSalur is an AI powered disaster logistics platform that connects Volunteer Command Centers with Victim Command Centers. Field volunteers submit real-time information about each evacuation center, including population demographics and urgent medical requirements. The platform analyzes this data to generate an AI based Urgency Score and visualizes it through an interactive heatmap. Once a location has received sufficient aid, the system automatically redirects incoming donations and volunteers to higher priority areas, ensuring balanced and effective aid distribution.
We built TepatSalur using NextJs as a Fullstack Web Development and Mapcn to provide an interactive real time map experience. Our application combines live field reports with AI driven prioritization to calculate an urgency score for every evacuation center. The platform continuously updates the heatmap and automatically manages distribution priorities allowing volunteers and donors to make informed decisions during disaster response.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was coming up with the right idea that could genuinely address a real world disaster management problem. We spent a significant amount of time refining and validating our concept before starting development. With a limited hackathon timeline, implementing several complex features such as AI-based urgency scoring, real time data reporting and interactive map visualization became another major challenge. We had to carefully prioritize the core functionalities, collaborate efficiently as a team, and make quick technical decisions to deliver a working prototype within the available time.
We are proud of transforming a complex humanitarian logistics problem into a practical AI-assisted solution. By combining real-time reporting, intelligent prioritization, and interactive mapping, TepatSalur helps ensure that donations reach communities that need them most while minimizing waste caused by oversupply. We are especially proud of creating a concept that has the potential to improve disaster response efficiency across Indonesia.
Developing TepatSalur has taught us valuable lessons that go beyond purely technical aspects. We’ve come to realize the importance of effective teamwork, where clear communication and collaboration enable us to overcome challenges and make decisions quickly. Working within the tight deadlines of a hackathon also strengthened our time-management skills, allowing us to prioritize the most impactful features while staying focused on our goals. Most importantly we gained experience in solving complex real world problems by breaking them down into manageable solutions and balancing technical feasibility with user needs to create a practical and meaningful disaster logistics platform.
Our next goal is to develop TepatSalur into a more comprehensive disaster response ecosystem. We plan to integrate real time weather and disaster data, improve AI based prediction models for resource allocation, facilitate offline reporting in areas with limited internet connectivity and collaborate with government agencies and humanitarian organizations. And in the future, we envision TepatSalur becoming a national platform that helps coordinate disaster relief efforts more efficiently throughout Indonesia.
