Inspiration
Andra noticed that once they released their chat line to help tenants avoid evictions, their call line became overwhelmed with calls. She also noticed that tenants had no knowledge of their tenants rights. She wanted to change that.
Defining the Problem
WA Civil legal aid providers and state/local agencies have created template letters and know your rights information but renters have a variety of technical barriers.
Renters have rights under Federal, State and local laws. There are limited attorneys available to help renters exercise their eviction defenses before an eviction filing. This app will help tenants advocate for their housing rights to stay housed and improve housing conditions.
How we built it
We got together with designers and developers to come up with a proof of concept mvp. With power apps we created a mock responsive app that was device agnostic. Using chat gpt and data provided by Andra we created an AI model that acts a helpful assistant.
Challenges we ran into
Powerapps requires a paid membership so we were only able to capture a video of the app. ChatGPT does not allow api's to connect to customGPt's so we went with the limited assistant route through a 3rd party.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a ChatGPT bot that was tested by professionals in the field. our data was verified as correct.
What we learned
How to create partnerships and outreach so that our users have the ability to have a human touch to the app.
What's next for Tenant Advocate App
Apply for grants, we have a mock app and would love to combine all the pieces we made today into a full compiled web application. Andra has a full vision of this app allowing tenants to develop a network with fellow tenants so information spreads.
