Inspiration

We noticed that musicians often struggle to maintain a consistent tempo during solo practice sessions without a met. We wanted to create a way to turn the Ring device into an intelligent practice partner that listens and provides immediate rhythmic analysis.

What it does

TempoTracker monitors music practice by listening to audio input through the Ring device. The system analyzes the rhythm, detects tempo fluctuations, and provides a detailed report on the session. Users can track their progress over time to ensure they are improving technically.

How we built it

We used Go to build high-performance backend services on AWS Lambda to process audio streams. We integrated Amazon Bedrock and LangGraph to manage the state of the practice session and provide conversational feedback. The audio is captured via Amazon Ring and processed through our custom TempoTracker logic.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was managing low-latency audio processing between the Ring hardware and our Lambda functions. We also struggled to map complex musical rhythms into a format that the AI could accurately interpret across different musical genres and background noise levels.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully integrated complex AI workflows with a hardware-centric track like Ring.. Seeing the system correctly identify a drop in tempo and provide constructive feedback in real-time was a huge win for our team.

What we learned

We learned a lot about orchestrating stateful AI agents using LangGraph within serverless environments. We also gained deep insights into optimizing Go binaries for fast execution in audio-heavy tasks on AWS Lambda.

What's next for TempoTracker

We plan to add more specific instrument profiles to improve the accuracy of rhythm detection. We also want to implement a competitive mode where users can compare their tempo consistency with other developers globally.
