Inspiration
1. Environmental Impact: The growing awareness of climate change and environmental degradation drives the need for sustainable choices. Our project is inspired by the desire to reduce the carbon footprint and promote a healthier planet by encouraging the use of organic and eco-friendly products.
2. Consumer Awareness:Many consumers are unaware of the benefits of organic products or the environmental costs of conventional ones. Our project aims to educate and empower consumers to make informed decisions that align with their values.
3. Market Innovation:With the increasing demand for sustainability, our project can inspire innovation in the market. By highlighting organic products, we encourage businesses to invest in and promote eco-friendly alternatives.
What it does
1. Product Selection: When a user visits our website, they are given a list of specific product category. The website provides a list of products relevant to their category.
2. Comparison of Products: Bestseller Product:This is a popular, conventional product that is widely available in the market. Organic Counterpart:Alongside the bestseller, the website shows an organic alternative, which is more environmentally friendly.
3. Information and Education:The user is then presented with detailed information about both products. This includes: Description:A narrative explaining the key differences between the bestseller and the organic product, focusing on the environmental and health benefits of choosing organic. Graphs and Visuals:Visual aids such as graphs are used to illustrate the impact of each product, like carbon footprint, resource consumption, or potential health benefits.
4. Informed Decision-Making:By comparing the bestseller with its organic counterpart, the user can easily understand why opting for the organic product might be a better choice. This not only promotes eco-friendly products but also educates users on the broader impact of their purchasing decisions.
How we built it: Project Plan and Conceptualisation
1. Idea Formation:We wanted to make a project that engages a group of people and not an individual. Looking for topics we found out Environment is one of the topics least talked about whereas it should be the hot topics of every talk. After brainstorming ideas we locked up with Greenify, the one-stop solution for a better tomorrow.
2. Team Roles:We are a group of 4. Myself Sanchit Narayan, along with me is Shaunak Karve we both took the charge for Front-end developing and designing. Shantanu Nadar along with Shail Shaji took in charge of Back-end developing and data analysing.
Challenges we ran into
1. Frontend Design and Alignment Issues: One of the primary challenges encountered was achieving a seamless alignment of images and text on the frontend. The response from the web page was inconsistent, leading to layout disruptions. Ensuring that the design was both aesthetically pleasing and functional across different devices required extensive debugging and iteration.
2. API Integration and Data Aggregation: Integrating APIs from various sources into our database posed significant hurdles. The vast amount of data and the inconsistency in data formats led to frequent errors, particularly during web scraping. Not all required data could be extracted reliably, which affected the accuracy and completeness of our product listings.
3. Database Synchronization for User Interaction: Another substantial challenge was the integration of user feedback, product ratings, and detailed product descriptions into a cohesive database structure. Merging these elements on the web page in a way that allowed for smooth interaction and real-time updates proved to be complex. Ensuring that the backend could support this dynamic interaction while maintaining performance was a critical issue that required careful planning and execution.
Accomplishments We're Proud Of
1. Refined Frontend Design: We overcame alignment issues to create a visually appealing, responsive interface that enhances user experience and accessibility to eco-friendly products.
2. Successful API Integration: We effectively aggregated data from multiple sources, ensuring accurate and up-to-date product information through robust error handling and data validation.
3. Unified User Interaction System: We integrated user feedback, ratings, and product descriptions into a seamless system, supporting informed, eco-friendly choices.
4. Enhanced Performance and Reliability: Optimizing our backend allowed us to handle dynamic interactions efficiently, maintaining fast load times and smooth performance.
5. Sustainability Rating System: A transparent rating system based on materials, carbon footprint, and manufacturing processes to help users assess product eco-friendliness.
6. Product Comparison Tool: A tool for comparing eco-friendly alternatives with conventional products, enabling informed, value-aligned decisions.
