The inspiration for Distrivial came from Trivia Crack, a game we both knew and loved from when we were younger. We saw the potential of Seam to allow us to create a similar application where people could engage with our miniapp, answering questions and posting their results on the Seam homepage. Distrivial is essentially a trivia app that presents users with five randomized questions from an online question bank. At the end, it shows what answers they got correct and incorrect, and gives them an option to post their results to be seen by others on the app.
We built Distrivial using starter code provided by Seam documentation. Neither of us had experience in TypeScript, but we embraced the challenge of learning it while building an app we were excited about. Working together provided an opportunity for the both of us to bounce ideas off of each other, resulting in an app with features we may not have come up with individually. We learned to balance our initial ideas with new suggestions that came up as we were coding, testing our problem-solving abilities and allowing us to build a more cohesive product.
We are proud of our ability to successfully put our ideas into action, especially because the app turned out almost exactly as envisioned. It was rewarding to see the app come more and more to life with each edit to both the user interface and the backend code.
Future plans for Distrivial include expanding it into something bigger on Seam, adding features such as streaks, average scores, and leaderboards to keep players engaged long-term. We are really grateful for the opportunity to create something we loved making and testing out, and we cannot wait to see where Distrivial goes next!
