Project Overview: KourseHub

Inspiration

The inspiration for KourseHub came from a desire to democratize education and make learning accessible and tailored to individual needs. Recognizing that each learner has unique interests and levels of expertise, we sought to create a platform where users could not only access a wide range of educational content but also have this content adapted to their specific learning stage and interests.

What I Learned

Building KourseHub was an enlightening journey that broadened my skills in several key areas:

  • Web Development: Enhanced my abilities in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side programming using Node.js.
  • Database Management: Gained practical experience with MongoDB for handling user data and course materials.
  • User Experience Design: Learned to design intuitive user interfaces that make it easy for users to navigate and interact with the platform.

How I Built It

Frontend

The frontend of KourseHub was designed with HTML/CSS/JavaScript to create a dynamic and responsive user interface. I used Bootstrap for styling to ensure the site was accessible and visually appealing across all devices.

Backend

For the backend, I utilized Node.js with Express to manage server-side logic and API endpoints. User data and course information are stored in MongoDB, which allows for efficient data retrieval and storage.

User Input Handling

A key feature of KourseHub is the interest and assessment forms that users complete upon registration. These forms use conditional logic to gauge the user's expertise and interests to recommend the most suitable courses.

Challenges Faced

  • User Authentication: Implementing secure and efficient user authentication was challenging. I integrated JWT for secure token-based authentication.
  • Data Modeling: Designing schemas that effectively represent complex relationships between courses, users, and their interactions posed significant challenges.
  • Adaptive Content Delivery: Developing algorithms to adapt course recommendations based on user inputs required intricate logic and testing.

Conclusion

The development of KourseHub taught me invaluable lessons about building full-stack web applications and reinforced my passion for leveraging technology to enhance education. Despite the challenges faced, the feedback from early users has been overwhelmingly positive, motivating me to continue improving and expanding the platform.
