Inspiration
With course registration opening up soon, we wanted to create a site where people could help each other choose their classes by discussing which ones were the most difficult, engaging, and interesting classes. Our site allows students to leave reviews on their favorite or least favorite classes.
How We built it
We used Django for the back-end and HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap for the Front-end. To whole site, we opted to use Google Cloud's Compute Engine by taking advantage of the free $25 credits. Google Cloud made it simple to assign a static IP, clone the project, install the dependencies, and deploy the application. In order to populate our database with classes, we used Python's requests library and BS4 to scrape classes directly from the Temple Bulletin. We found out that there's over 11,000 classes offered by Temple! The data for these courses is stored in a Sqlite database.
What's next for Temple Courses Rater
We want to add more specific rating measurements and polish up the UI.
