Inspiration

One of our team members has faced personal challenges with epileptic seizures and has long envisioned a product tailored to meet their unique needs. This vision became the driving force behind NeuroSafe—a solution designed not only to help them live a healthier life but also to empower others facing similar challenges. NeuroSafe aims to transform this dream into reality by providing an accessible tool that enhances well-being and independence for individuals with seizure conditions.

What it does

NeuroSafe enables users to connect our smart device, equipped with advanced health sensors, to detect early warning signs of a potential seizure. By monitoring key health indicators, the system alerts users to possible risks and provides actionable steps to mitigate the onset of a seizure. Additionally, NeuroSafe integrates with home automation and automobile systems, creating adaptive environments that respond to a user’s health. For instance, it can safely pull over a vehicle in case of an emergency or adjust home lighting to reduce exposure to seizure triggers such as strobe effects. In critical situations, NeuroSafe can also alert family members and healthcare providers when the user is unable to call for assistance, ensuring timely intervention.

How we built it

We developed a proof of concept using readily available components, connected to a central server running custom software. This software is designed to parse health data, assess risks, and issue real-time alerts. The system offers proactive guidance to users, helping them stay informed and take steps to prevent potential seizures. Our design focuses on seamless integration between hardware, software, and user-facing applications.

Challenges we ran into

Our biggest challenge was integrating the various aspects of the project, from back-end data processing to hardware functionality, and creating an intuitive user interface. Each team member overcame obstacles in their respective domains to ensure we delivered a cohesive and functional solution.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of our ability to create a successful proof of concept, demonstrating innovation in consumer health products. The teamwork and dedication behind this project were crucial in making a meaningful step toward improving seizure management through affordable and accessible technology.

What we learned

Throughout the process, we gained valuable experience in integrating off-the-shelf components, developing smart systems, and utilizing server-side data processing to alert users about potential health risks. This project also deepened our understanding of how technology can be harnessed to provide real-time, life-saving solutions.

What's next for NeuroSafe

Our next goal is to develop a fully functional prototype to present to potential partners and investors. With additional funding, we aim to transition from a proof of concept to a fully realized product that can enhance the quality of life for individuals with epilepsy and similar conditions.
