Inspiration

Nowadays people are more invested and interested in doing something if they are competing against others. All around the world in our offices and schools recycling not being made a priority and is commonly overlooked. We wanted to create a game where people can compete with others in their communities to recycle …

What it does

After signing up for the game, you are competing against 6 people, and are given a score based on how much you’ve recycled: ex: Paper, plastic, cardboard, etc. Your name is put into a leaderboard with other players and you are given the ability to update your score. And then your name will be placed on a leaderboard compared to other players.

How we built it

We used Java to code our application. Then, our group decided to delegate tasks to manage our time better. The tasks were delegated to each member based on their skill level, allowing each member of the group to learn something newly appropriate for them. A few hours later, once we completed our individual tasks, we worked together on VS Code to create the final product and connect each of the sub pieces. Finally, we spent our remaining time creating the presentation for our project.

Challenges we ran into

Finding a way to create a fully functional interface was challenging, as we only have experience in Java. After talking and collaborating with each other, we overcame our individual issues and were able to put together this final product. Finding a software that satisfied both visual and functional expectations was difficult, however, we decided to run our final product on android studio.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of learning to use a new interface, android studio. We had to take some time to watch videos and learn how to implement our design, but after some time, it ended up working out.

What we learned

We learned how to work together and collaborate with each other. Although our project is not the most advanced, it still has some unique characteristics about it. We also learned how to implement different techniques in java.

What's next for Temperature Converter

We want to learn new languages and take this application to the next level. Our goal is for people to use this app on a larger scale, but we would need to utilize different platforms such as android studios or x code. These would allow us to create a full fledged mobile application. It would have more of a social media outlook in which each person could create their own profile on their own and socialize.
