Inspiration
Sleep is the one of the most integral part of a healthy life, a lack of sleep could cause severe depression, anxiety, and often times a catalyst to viral and bacteria infection of many kinds. That said me, my team and a lot more people deal with difficulties regarding sleep that greatly lowers their sleep time with a statistic from Kompas saying less than half of Indonesians actually sleep the recomendded amount of hours.
There is also a disparaity in solutions regarding problematic sleep , in which the macro solution is split between therapy and drugs. With therapy the most effective method is CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) in which in most cases you need a therapist to guide you. While apps exist to fill in this gap most end up as just sleep diary you can input your data in. It completely lacks the conversational and personal value that you get with a therapist.
What it does
That said, my team and i have built DrowzyDiary a sleep diary in accordance with CBT-I that is wrapped up in a ui that emulates the feel of chat room complete with data extraction to pick up important personal factors that explisits app tend to miss. This app's main selling point is the ease of input that emulates the a chat with someone. With a main inspiration of a late night chat with a friend. It serves as a reminder tool, a informative dashboard, and a sleep assistence.
How we built it
using Flutter as the base with the frontend and using FastAPI for the backend we built an AI-integrated system that make use of external API calls along with ML classifier models to accurately map the intentions and emotions of user's late night and early morning chats with the systems.
The UI employs a simple and functional design with the scrollbar being big and having only 3 components it lighten the load of data input fatiuge and the dark colorscheme with an option of a gray filter reduces over-exposing users to bright lights which increases insentive of falling asleep.
Dual design between lightmode and darkmode also enforces the sentiment of seperating daily and nightly activites. Constant reminders through eye catching notifications also helps remind users to follow strictly the procedure of CBT-I.
Challenges we ran into
the multitude of challanges comes from streamlining how we request respones to external source so as to be as efficient as possible and an array of micro UI/UX decisions to cater to our demographic and research about little details to enhance the experience further.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making this in about 24 hours is very tiring and hard but eventually we did it and its an accomplishment that we are very proud of.
What we learned
We learned a lot about our initial problem and we also learn new skills regarding mobile app development because we never learned about it before this competetion.
What's next for temp_project
We enjoy our time in Garudahacks and next we plan to compete in a lot of more competetions to test and develop our skills further
