Transit deserts drive car dependency. Car dependency drives pollution
The Interborough Express (IBX) corridor passes through some of NYC’s most industrial and pollution-heavy neighborhoods, where limited transit access has reinforced vehicle reliance and environmental inequity.
Using NYC Open Data, we analyze transit density, car ownership rates, and key air pollutants (PM2.5, ozone 03 NO₂) to model how expanded rail access could reduce emissions and improve commuter outcomes. By examining comparable expansions such as the Second Avenue Subway and the 7 train extension we demonstrate how targeted transit investment can function as both a mobility solution and a climate intervention.
The interactive prototype allows personalized a trail/train line/bus line idea. Showing the benefit that can get locals, environment and experiences in MTA system. Data analyses from different aspects.
Our work reframes IBX as a measurable environmental justice strategy, not just an infrastructure project.
