Inspiration
I was inspired by the look of the game boy advance, and that arcade picture. The idea was to make a game inside of a handheld console or arcade device.
What it does
It's a simple platformer with one level where you need to get to the other side and avoid obstacles.
How we built it
It was coded in Unity. Again, very simple. However, I did need to play around a bit to get the frame effect.
Challenges we ran into
I wanted to add textures, sounds, and even music, but couldn't make those look right in the time that we had, so I settled for a more minimal design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The game is fully functional and has a complete level. It's also deceptively challenging. Plus, the original inspired aesthetic was accomplished.
What we learned
Making even a simple game is complicated, especially with level design. It's really hard to think of and make a decent level.
What's next for Block Leap
I might add more levels, optimize the code, and finally add sound effects. I'd also flesh out the console view, like adding circular buttons that react to the inputs.
