Inspiration
We are all broke college students, and a lot of us have different goals when it comes to our nutrition. Some may want to maximize their protein intake, for example, while others want to minimize total cost. But what if there was a way to do both?
What it does
This web application allows users to budget their next grocery trip while also budgeting their calorie and macronutrient intake!
How we built it
TemocEats was built with React on the frontend and Firebase on the backend
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we ran into was getting our food data. Most food APIs were either not free or had a timeout. This meant that we had to gather our data entries using a free demo from paid software; however, the project should easily be able to plug into any food API given
Accomplishments that we're proud of
TemocEats allows users to easily budget and save their shopping list, making it totally universal!
What we learned
We learned the importance of teamwork, how to choose APIs, and how to effectively design and implement full-stack applications.
What's next for TemocEats
Securing funding for: paid APIs for large, accurate data sets; a web domain to allow free use by anyone; and Firebase subscriptions to keep our database responsive. Adding a profile section to allow for access to past shopping lists and customization. Creating a mobile app which extends the web implementation to reach a wider audience.
