Inspiration

As an introvert, I’ve always been someone who holds back in class even when I’m full of thoughts. I used to leave with so many doubts I never asked... not because I didn’t care, but because I was scared of being judged or sounding silly. When I started talking to others, I realized I wasn’t the only one. That’s when the idea of Tellin started growing in my mind. A space that lets students like me express themselves without fear.

What it does

Tellin is a real-time classroom feedback system built with introverted students in mind. It lets students:

  • Ask questions anonymously and upvote other students questions as well
  • Vote in mood polls and participate in quizzes/polls hosted by the teacher
  • Let teachers know if things feel confusing, too fast, or overwhelming
  • Show appreciation when they enjoy the session

Teachers get to:

  • View responses and live emotions in real-time
  • Send quick quizzes or polls
  • Once a topic is done the teachers can ask if it is clear or not
  • Get alerts when many students are feeling the same way (confused, bored, happy, etc)
  • An AI summarization on the basis of all the feedback data from students
  • Read and respond to the questions

It’s all about creating a quiet, meaningful connection between students and teachers.

How I built it

  • I started with interviewing high school students and teachers to understand their experiences
  • Then I mapped insights and figured out main goals and features for Tellin
  • Designed lo-fi sketches, wireframes, and the entire prototype in Figma
  • Made every screen as much interactive as I could (especially the student side!)
  • Made a demo video to showcase the purpose and features of Tellin

Challenges I ran into

One thing that made me think about a lot was that I could gather the data from students but that much data might be overwhelming for teachers to see while teaching. So, to tackle this issue I introduced AI in Tellin that would summarize all the data and frequently send alerts to the teacher based on patterns in mood, confusion levels, or engagement. This helps teachers take action at the right time without being distracted from teaching.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I'm happy that the story I told was real, something I’ve lived and something others related to. So, the solution I built isn't all fiction, it is something I wish I could have while I struggle with my studies. And also, I designed each and every feature of Tellin based on what my target users, i.e., introverted students and teachers want in the app not just what I want. As a student in designing field, working on this project (even though alone) gave me a great experience in designing for real-life problems and empathy.

What I learned

It's not that all the introverted students want to stay hidden behind those invisible walls, they just need a push to be confident in expressing themselves more freely and a safe environment to overcome their fear of getting judged. Just because the introverts are silent doesn't mean they don't have their own ideas or opinions, they just need a better way to express themselves. There's a lot I learnt while designing Tellin, it made me come out of my comfort zone and design for emotions not just features.

What's next for Tellin – A real-time Feedback System

I’d love to turn this prototype into something real that can be tested in classrooms. Maybe I'd build an MVP using no-code tools or collaborate with developers. I want to add more features like feedback history, student growth patterns, and much more. Most of all, I want to make sure no student ever feels like their thoughts don’t matter just because they’re quiet.
