Overview

According to a study led by Northwestern School of Medicine, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of mortality in the world. Though there has been progress in the treatment of CVD, the cardiovascular (CV) workforce has recently been scrutinized regarding the delivery of streamlined, high-quality care to the CVD patient population. The article notes, “without concerted efforts to optimize the CV workforce to meet U.S. public health needs, some forecasters predict that a crisis of staggering proportions may be imminent” (Narang et al. 2016).

With a focus on Cardiovascular Disease, we prioritized creating a product that would help patients create a heart-healthy lifestyle in tandem with fulfilling their basic telehealth needs. To encompass the target audience’s basic desires to communicate more efficiently with their doctors in a post Covid world, the Televate app allows the user to message their doctor’s offices, make appointments, request refills or referrals, and access their medical history. What makes Televate more unique is its ability to track its users' blood pressure and cholesterol and automatically notifies their doctors if their levels are abnormal. Additionally, Televate provides users with physical therapy videos and heart-healthy recipes that can be tailored to each individual.

How did you decide on this customer segment, problem, and solution?

We determined our customer segment by identifying which individuals would be early, middle, and late adopters. Additionally, the functionality and goal of the app influenced the customer segment. Our problem was identified by looking to the areas of healthcare that had insufficient solutions for chronic care management and wellbeing. The solution was born from evaluating the gaps in the existing products and efficiency of cardiovascular health workflow.

How did your team build and iterate on the solution?

Each Week using Trello and Slack we created a schedule for our weekly meetings and tasks to make sure each of our team members was on the same page. In order to build Televate first, we brainstormed different key features that we wanted our app to have and who our target audience would be. Next, the pro squad created wireframes using Adobe Xd and drew up some user flowcharts on paper and shared the ideas with the go squad and coaches to confirm. Next Mary moved on to designing more hi-fi prototypes on Adobe Xd and shared her designs with Chloe and Kyle to begin creating the app using Bubble. While Televate was being developed, Ayesha and Zeba researched and completed the Environmental Analysis including market forces, macroeconomic forces, industry forces, and key trends. They also explored customer personas and proposed new ideas and elements to be included in our final app design using their value proposition map, business model canvas, and swot analysis.

Key Metrics

Each member of the pro squad performed user testing of the app with 5 people. The GoSquad reviewed 50 business and academic articles to understand the market and developed the Environmental Analysis and Business Model Canvas.

Key Tools, Libraries, and Frameworks

Bubble to create app, Adobe XD for front end prototype, and Unsplash for photos.

If you had another 5 weeks to work on this, what would you do next?

With more time we would begin to create detailed workflows for the physician side of the app and integrate this with the patient’s side of the app. Additionally, we would like to improve the security of the app and the user’s data, especially for any private medical records. We also hope to add a way to check in to their doctor’s office through the app and fill out minor paperwork to prevent time spent in the waiting room. Lastly, we would create a possibility for hospital networks to request personal branding of the Televate app to match more seamlessly into their tech systems.
