What it does
This project connects sufferers of depression to valuable resources like locations of hospitals, online help lines, and an anonymous chatroom where they can connect to professional consultants and other patients.
How we built it
We built the chatroom using Firebase, and built the rest of the website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
We did face a few challenges setting up the chatroom using Firebase, as it was my first time using it. After a bit of trial and error, I was able to get it working. Another challenge I faced was setting up the location map. It was my first time experimenting with geographical data, and it took some time before I was able to set it up properly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of how the website turned out, and I believe it can help sufferers of depression all around the world. I also like how the Chatbot assistant turned out.
What we learned
I learned a lot about firebase and how to use their databases during the time I was programming this. I also learned more about geographical information and how I could implement it into my websites.
What's next for Telemental
In the future, I hope to improve the map with far more locations of hospitals, and more information about them. To do this, I will probably look into CSV file reading, as it is probably the best way to import data into code.
