TEKUMA is an online platform that would allow for high quality student art works to be available to the public. Our goal is to help students in design programs to build up their career via our platform which is a hybrid of a marketplace and a social network. We want to bring the work of the world’s future designers and creative minds and show it to the world.

There is supply and demand in the profession that need to be connected. On one hand, students are creating a lot of high quality art works at school every year, including paintings, drawings, models and sculptures and on another there is a demand for unique non-generic art works by young up and coming talented designers. Based on experience, we witness that most of these works are usually trashed or forgotten after they are presented and graded. Students do not have enough space to store their work or there is no incentive to publish the work due to insecurity and the inability to see beauty in ones own work. We believe that via the auction marketplace business model, students will be motivated to sell and share their works to the world in order to preserve their creations in the hands of those appreciative of their creativity.

Our goal is to bridge the two groups (sellers and buyers) through a clean interface. Let’s imagine two scenarios where TEKUMA can serve as an ideal platform for both design student and art collector.

Scenario A: [Buyer]

Imagine a young professional in his or her 30s, with relatively high income but not rich enough to buy very expensive artworks from art galleries. Or lets say a freshman college student in New York who has a budget of a $100 to beautify her dorm room. Where do these two go?

Scenario B: [Seller]

Now let’s see the case of an architecture student from rural Pakistan who is super-talented and creates the most beautiful art pieces. How does he/she show their work to the world without the ability to ever travel? Or even closer to home, students at MIT and Harvard are producing incredible 3D prints and models that never see the day of light yet cost them a fortune. How can they auction their work to those in the Boston area without the clutter of eBay and Etsy(competitors).

We see TEKUMA as the solution, today the internet has made every trading available online but art is still traded in a very conventional form. There is curiosity about what art/design schools are doing and by enrolling just students as sellers, we are also marketing those university programs. The goal is to boost each school’s reputation and launch the careers of these individuals before graduation and try to capture the value of their works being created as they progress all whilst providing art to those that want it.
