Inspiration
We were inspired by the current situation at our own school, as well as the accounts of other students we know. Smoking, whether it be through tobacco or e-cigarettes, is a huge problem in our area, especially among the youth. It's affected many people we know and care about, and isn't nearly as responded to as it should be, and that's why we wanted to make a project that could perhaps lead to larger action against the issue.
What it does
It's a website aimed to garner support and attention to the issue of underage smoking, as well as getting people informed and ready to fight for that cause.
How we built it
We built it through a collaborative VS Code effort, with each of us spearheading a different feature of the site. We used systems like CSS and React to bring the website about, learning many different processes throughout our endeavors.
Challenges we ran into
Our main issues had to do with alignment and the visuals. An extremely important part of website design is, of course, the visuals, and as such we spent the most time developing and learning the intricacies of such. The longest effort was most likely the animations, which we did last, and which consisted of things like scroll animations, fade-ins, buttons, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The visuals are obviously what we're most proud of, as we made them completely from scratch. From the animations to the waves to the stories, we're proud of all of it. Of course we could've done a lot more, but for now we're proud with what we have.
What we learned
Throughout this project, we all searched up countless amounts of tutorials and guides to help us bring our ideas to life and unto the website. That includes animations, buttons, links, images, etc. Almost everything you see on the website is the results of such learning.
What's next for Untitled
We've actually decided to perhaps go forward with Teens Against Smoking as a real, local movement that we could get started at our school. Of course, we don't know how exactly we would go forward, but getting other people involved would be the first order of business.
