Inspiration

"My name is Britney, and I am a high school senior soon graduating in 2022. From experience and being in a challenging program, the IB Program, I realized that studying and being organized were huge issues for me. I noticed that I would waste time on little things rather than getting my major work done. This was all until I started putting on paper what I wanted to get done and so on. Although I always end up not finding the paper I wrote on, and I don't want to rewrite my to-dos. I came up with the idea of just organizing a site for to-dos for the day. My team members and I even decided to add study music because we understand that some students appreciate listening to music while studying. Teddy wellness is a site that is supposed to help loosen the amount of stress every high school and college student carries, starting with the little assignments. If people know this or not, school can affect one's health because we all want to strive and do better, but being unorganized will add more stress to our lives, which doesn't help with our health."

"My name is Sabrina, and I am a high school sophomore in the class of 2024. I wanted to create an app for wellness and studying because I think it's important to balance school and other commitments with wellbeing. The limited amount of to-do’s was important because it reminds you to focus on just a few important assignments or chores you may have to focus on in a given day, rather than trying to do everything in one day. The music recommendations are helpful because they give you a place to start your Spotify-search without having to spend too much time on it. Also, the flashcards could prove useful in the future if they can be kept and saved over time. The idea is to work on a steady progression over time, and to tackle each challenge in increments over time. "

Our process

We used replite.com with the coding languages HTML and CSS. The app has different features, such as music recommendations, an interactive to-do list, and flashcards where terms can be stored temporarily. A challenge was that some of our team members were new to coding and others have not been coding for a while so we all were trying to get used to how to work with html. We also ran into the issue of timing. Some of our team members could not code because of live events that were happening outside of the hackathon. We learned how adjust to our websites needs quickly, brainstorm fairly quick and interact with new people. When it comes to the code, we all learn how to use html and CSS adding what we already know to new information used from sites such as w3school, youtube, and some google sites. The internet was a big help for us in learning or relearning how to use the languages we chose. Overall, we are proud of figuring out how to make interactive text slots and buttons that can make announcements. For one of us, this is their first website produced by a hackathon.

Future plans

For the future, we plan to build into the system an emoji tracker. This will be a section where students can tap on which emoji best represents how their day went. We also plan to build a calendar for this so our users can see their emotional progress. If our user has two back-to-back bad days, we will build a system where positive affirmations are sent to our user. Since we aim for high school and college students, we plan to develop a section for tutoring help.
