Inspiration
The inspiration of our app is the lack of on-the spot mental breakdown support. We wanted to make it easy for users to get the help they need in the form of a quick distraction.
What it does
Our app allows users to pick one of their favorite soothing games in the app. This game can be quickly be accessed while the phone is locked via a widget. This provides quick support for users. The program also has a journaling feature which allows the user to jot down thoughts about the breakdown. This helps the user cope with the emotions and possibly prevent a future attack.
How we built it
Because we are fairly inexperienced in coding, we used FIGMA to make a sample. We used flow links to connect the pages together which allowed us to redirect the user to other pages/parts depending on which buttons were clicked.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a challenge when we attempted to allow users to select multiple genres. We discovered that this would take an insane amount of FIGMA pages which would make it very difficult to not only make but organize.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how accessible we made accessing a relaxing game. This is very important considering that the user is in a potential mental breakdown. We are also proud of the designs of the program particularly the bear and the book pages that were hand drawn on an iPad.
What we learned
We learned how to effectively use FIGMA to develop sample apps. As a result, we learned that we are able to solve real world problems if we put our minds to it. Our digital designer also learned how to draw on an iPad.
What's next for Teddy Buddy
We would like to have users sign in and to save user data to make the app more personalized and to save user notes. We would also like to make the user interface more customizable such as allowing them to turn on dark mode, like multiple games, or even potentially change the animal buddy.
