Inspiration
Students have issues with procrastination, keeping it hard to put their mobile devices away and stay focussed.
What it does
TEDDY is a interactive study companion that changes its mood due to the amount of phone usage by the user. If the user has used its phone for a sufficient amount of time, it will send a telegram message alert, telling the user to put his/her phone back to the companion. Overtime, as the phone is placed with TEDDY, his mood will lighten up. TEDDY gives the user a responsibility of keeping a pet alive, therefore it encourages the student to have lesser phone usage.
How we built it
It is comprised of a main body of 3D-printed bear, equipped with a 1602 LCD for animated characters. We programmed a "health bar" to determine TEDDY's mood, 100 being the best, 0 being the lowest. We used an ultra-sonic sensor to detect if the user has placed his/her phone with TEDDY. If the healthbar goes below a certain level, it will send a first warning, subsequently if it constantly goes down, its mood will turn sad and ultimately the pet will "die".
Challenges we ran into
Using API keys to get the ESP32 to send a message to the client. Looping the animated faces on to the LCD screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For our first hackathon with zero knowledge and experience in arduino and C++, we are thrilled to be able to come up with a working prototype!
What we learned
Ideation and brainstorming took up a substantial amount of time as we did not manage to create ideas to hit the themes. For future hackathons, we should work on the significance of the problem and make sure that our direction aligns with the theme of the hackathon.
What's next for TEDDY
