Inspiration
For this project we wanted to spread awareness about nightmare disorder in a way where we can try to put our players in the shoes of what children with nightmare disorder might experience. To do this, our goal was to have day and night cycles where the player goes to school during the day, and then has to escape enemies at night. Throughout the course of this game, the day and night scenes would start to blend, making them unsure when it was day or when it was night, as well as learn some background about our character, Pax, and what might have cause the disorder to begin with.
How we built it
This game was built in unity and all the art was done in Photoshop.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest issues we ran into was time constraint. We originally wanted to have this project does within a semester, however it ended up taking us a year to create a playable prototype for this game (not without its own bugs still unfortunately).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were accepted to BostonFig2022!! We got to talk to others about out game and share a prototype of our game :)
What we learned
Scale is super important when designing a game! Also learning to manage time and set checkpoints throughout the project to help keep us all moving timely.
What's next for Teddy and Me
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we will finish this project for a while. Since creating and coming up with the design for it, everyone that I worked on this project with have learned lots in classes from better coding practices to better ways to design puzzles, implement art, and create worlds. Instead, we have opted to start working on a new game which we hope to be able to share in a years time!
