Inspiration
Knowing how hard it is for our grandaparents to use smartphones we wished to create something to help them adjust to the digital world in a simple way, that can easily be managed by a trusted more tech-savvy person.
What it does
It aims to override the unfamiliar mobile system UI to provide a clear easily navigable interface no one can get lost in. It offers shortcuts to the most needed functionalities such as: calling and texting an acquaintance or checking the weather.
How we built it
We created a mobile app using expo that connects with a hosted flask based backend that allows for remote app configuration.
Challenges we ran into
Divergences between production and developement environments such as overlapping python modules made us lose our minds. Not being able to access native mobile APIs hindered our pursuit of simplicity.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The UI is simple and easily navigable and offest quick acces to all the required information. We are happy to create a product that may help so many people, including those close to ours.
What we learned
It's essential to connect frontend with backend as early as possible to avoid surprises in the later stages of developement. Expo offers simple and wire-free way to start-off mobile app developement.
What's next for Technology for Everyone
Expand the configurable commands collection to allow for a smoother transition to the normal UI.
