Inspiration

There is no convenient way for young students to connect to professionals online. The most popular website that caters to careers is linkedIn, which requires one to create a resume with the intention to impress. This platform will allow students to connect with professionals online with the only expectation being for advice.

What it does

This project current functionality includes a website and app that hopefully soon can be integrated together. More specifically, the website allows for a log-in or sign-in as well as some information about the site. In addition, the app also allows for a log-in and registration page.

How I built it

The website was built using html and css where as the app was all done in android studio using xml and java.

Challenges I ran into

The main challenge we ran into was just learning how to use android studio as well as build upon it. We also had a tough time working with github. For three of our four members, it was the first time for them to ever create anything like this and this caused quite a bit of stress in our group. Another challenge we faced with the website specifically was that most of us had no experience with html, css, php, and server development. This resulted in us spending countless time learning all that we could while simultaneously trying to create a site.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am very much proud of how our team was able to stick it out until the end as well as gaining a greater knowledge of both the tech industry and several programming languages. This new found knowledge will allow us to further expand our horizons and help us find what aspect of computer science we would like to one day be working on.

What I learned

I learned how to make an android logo for the first time. I have worked with android studio before but I have only managed to make single page applications with the default green android logo. I was able to make multiple pages with a button connection between them. It was stressful to make it all come together, but I'm proud of myself for the little progress I made.

What's next for Technolochicks

We would need to learn more about development before we could add extra functionality to our platform. We would like to set up a forum for students to ask professionals for advice of all sorts, ranging from resume critiquing, job search questions, as well as interviewing guidelines.
