We thought it would be a fun and interesting to learn more about hardware by making an instrument.

What it does

Using an Ultrasonic sensor, play notes along a major scale by moving your hand along the instrument. Also contains 4 preset tunes to play alongside the dynamic scale.

How we built it

We used 2 Arduino boards to output to a speaker for the main scales, and a piezo buzzer for the presets. Everything is powered by 9v batteries.

Challenges we ran into

This was the first time working with hardware for Cindy and Joseph, and was a completely new learning experience because of that. We also ran into the issue of a lack of a Digital Analog Converter on the boards we were using and needed to handle only digital signals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to store preset songs on one chip and play notes freely alongside them.

What we learned

How to use Arduino C, breadboards, and basic circuit theory.

What's next for Techno Nimbus 2000

Getting our hands on a Digital Analog Converter, and varying the tones we can output.
