Technica2018

Our project for Technica2018 is Odd Jobs. Odd Jobs is a website that is designed to help people find work in their community. It allows people to post simple job positions in their community for things like babysitting and mowing the lawn. Everything on Odd Jobs is restricted to the community, so it's only the people from your neighborhood that see your posts. Odd Jobs isn’t limited to stable jobs, It can also work for one time tasks.

I worked on the front-end of the website and wrote a lot of the HTML code. I do not have that much experience with CSS, so that was a new experience. I learnt a lot about web development. It was interesting using the google maps api for the first time.

Gayatri Gopavajhala
I worked on the back-end with Python, Django, and a bit of Java Script. I found it very challenging, as I had never used some of these applications before, but learned a lot. I hope to use my newfound knowledge of Git, Django, Pip, and Java Script in the future.

I worked on backend, working which Django which I have never worked with before. In fact, I've never done any backend before. It was quite difficult, the equivalent of jumping in the deep end of the pool without learning to swim well. But throughout the night I found myself getting a better grasp of it, and although this website has its rough edges, it is the creation I am most proud of.

This was my first time at a hackathon and I had a large amount of fun. It was very different from what I expected. I worked on the frontend of our project, mainly working with CSS and HTML. It wasn't too hard, but it was a lot of code. I ended up reviewing and learning a lot more about how CSS works.
