Inspiration

I wanted to use BuiltWith to look up company tech stacks, but the pricing was way out of reach for a solo builder. I figured other small teams and indie hackers were running into the same wall, so I decided to build an affordable alternative myself.

What it does

TechLeads.fyi lets you search any website and instantly see its technology profile, including CMS, hosting, analytics, and frameworks. From there, you can build targeted lead lists filtered by technology, track domains for tech changes with alerts, and pull the same data programmatically through an API for your own tools or AI agents.

How I built it

I focused on keeping the core lookup and data pipeline lean so I could offer plans starting at $29, well below what BuiltWith and Wappalyzer charge. The platform covers technographic and firmographic data, domain-level tracking, and API access, all built and maintained solo.

Challenges I ran into

Sourcing and keeping technographic data accurate and fresh was the biggest challenge, especially as a solo founder without a data team. Pricing was also tricky: I wanted to stay affordable without cutting corners on data quality, which meant being deliberate about what to build first versus what could wait.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Launching a working, affordable alternative to a tool that dominates its category, entirely solo, is what I'm most proud of. Getting the API, alerts, and domain tracking live alongside the core lookup tool, all at a fraction of competitor pricing, felt like a real milestone.

What I learned

Building for a technical, price-sensitive audience taught me a lot about balancing feature depth with simplicity, and about how much trust matters when you're the underdog going up against established players.

What's next for Techleads.fyi

I'm planning to expand technographic coverage, add more integrations for CRMs and outbound tools, and keep improving API reliability for teams and AI agents that depend on it programmatically.
