Inspiration
During my college journey, I noticed that many talented students build great projects — but those projects often never reach beyond classroom walls. Recruiters rely mainly on resumes, which don’t reflect true skills. I wanted to solve this problem by creating a platform where students’ skills and projects speak louder than their degrees. That’s how TechFolio was born — to empower students through gamified recognition, visibility, and opportunity.
What it does TechFolio is a gamified portfolio and tournament platform for tech students. Students can upload projects, earn badges, and climb leaderboards based on verified skills. Colleges can host tech tournaments and challenges to keep students motivated. Recruiters can view verified student portfolios with real project data and ranks, making hiring more skill-driven and transparent. In short — TechFolio helps students Build, Compete, and Get Hired.
How we built it We built TechFolio using: Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap for responsive UI Backend: Node.js and Firebase integration for authentication and database Hosting: Netlify for fast and free deployment Design & Prototyping: Figma for UI/UX wireframes
Future Scope: Integration with APIs for recruiter dashboards and project analytics Our focus was to build a smooth, minimal, and motivating interface for students to engage with.
Challenges we ran into Designing a gamification system that feels rewarding but fair Building a leaderboard logic that updates dynamically and avoids bias Creating a structure where colleges, students, and recruiters could all interact seamlessly Managing time constraints while developing multiple modules during the hackathon
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
Built a functional MVP with project upload, leaderboard, and portfolio modules Designed a clean, responsive UI that students actually enjoy using Created a unique idea that blends education, gamification, and recruitment Received positive feedback from peers and mentors during initial testing
What we learned How to turn a real-world problem into a product with measurable impact The importance of user experience and visual engagement in edtech products Improved skills in frontend integration, data management, and project storytelling Learned that innovation isn’t just about code — it’s about solving real problems creatively
What's next for TechFolio — Build. Compete. Get Hired. Integrate recruiter dashboards for talent discovery Add mobile app support for Android and iOS Partner with colleges and hackathons for official tournaments Implement AI-based skill matching to recommend projects and jobs to students Scale globally to become the LinkedIn for students — powered by gamification
✨ Tagline: TechFolio — Build. Compete. Get Hired. A platform that turns your college projects into your career portfolio.
