🧠 Inspiration

Crafting a strong resume during a job search can feel like a full-time job in itself — especially for tech professionals. While helping friends and family update their resumes, I realized most existing tools are too generic and fail to speak the language of engineers, PMs, or data scientists. As a longtime hiring manager in the software industry, I know that when reviewing resumes, we only have a few minutes — and what truly stands out are clear, measurable impact statements. Metrics, KPIs, and tech relevance matter. Build Tech Resume was born from the need for a smarter, faster way to create tailored, ATS-friendly, metric-based tech resumes that actually get noticed.

🚀 What It Does

BuildTechResume.com is an AI-powered resume builder tailored specifically for tech professionals. It offers pre-defined, ATS-optimized templates for roles like engineers, engineering leaders, data scientists, and more. Each template emphasizes impact-driven storytelling — with space dedicated to metrics, KPIs, and outcomes. What sets it apart is the built-in AI assistant that helps rewrite bullet points to boost clarity and impact. Users also receive a real-time ATS score to ensure their resume passes automated filters and stands out in the recruiter’s quick scan.

🛠️ How We Built It

Build Tech Resume was built using a lean, modern stack optimized for speed and scalability. The frontend was crafted in Bolt.new, enabling rapid prototyping with a beautiful UI. I used Supabase for authentication and database management, making it easy to securely handle user data and session flows. Stripe powers the paid subscription model, allowing users to unlock advanced features seamlessly. The app is hosted on Netlify. At the heart of the AI assistant is GPT-4o, which helps rewrite resume content to make it more impactful, concise, and recruiter-friendly.

⚠️ Challenges We Ran Into

This was my first time building a product with AI — let alone integrating it into a full web app. There was a steep learning curve, but I embraced it. I treated Bolt.new like an intern on my team: giving it instructions and training it over time to understand and follow my prompts better. Early on, Bolt would confirm implementation steps that weren’t actually reflected in the files. I had to adapt by explicitly prompting it to verify its own work, which led to more reliable iterations.

On the technical side, Supabase presented challenges with the password reset flow — specifically, Bolt.new wasn’t passing the correct redirect URL in the API call despite prompts that should’ve covered it. Debugging that with minimal documentation took time and experimentation.

But the biggest challenge wasn’t just technical — it was personal. I fell sick for two weeks during the build. As a mother of two young children with visiting in-laws, finding uninterrupted time to work was nearly impossible. Despite the chaos of a full house and a delayed timeline, I pushed through and crossed the finish line — just in time for the deadline.

🏆 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

My biggest accomplishment with Build Tech Resume is launching a full-featured, AI-powered resume builder in just a month — something that would’ve taken several months in a traditional enterprise environment. Having led large-scale projects like legacy database migrations and enterprise SSO rollouts, I was amazed at how modern tools like Bolt.new, Supabase, and GPT-4o accelerated every part of the process — from concept to deployment.

Personally, I’m proud of diving into Bolt.new for the first time and overcoming the tendency to overanalyze tool choices. In today’s world of endless tech options, it's easy to fall into analysis paralysis. But this hackathon forced me into an action-first mindset. It was a great reminder that execution beats overthinking — and that with the right tools, even roadblocks become speed bumps.

🔮 What's Next for Build Tech Resume

The next step is to polish Build Tech Resume and take it to market. My goal is to turn it into a platform that truly empowers tech professionals — helping them focus on preparing for interviews and leveling up their skills, rather than wasting hours on resume formatting and rewording. With my years of experience in the software industry and as a hiring manager, I know exactly which features can help candidates stand out and land their next role. I’m excited to expand the product and continue building tools that move careers forward — faster, smarter, and with confidence.
