During the pandemic, Canadians have been required to isolate themselves away from family and friends. Many have found ways to stay connected with their loved ones virtually. Even though you were not interacting with people in-person, you were texting, calling, having online movie nights, hosting meetings, and attending classes. However, there’s a large demographic of people, such as the older generation, who do not have sufficient experience with technology and aren’t as comfortable using these communication platforms. This may result in them feeling isolated and alone, unable to reach their loved ones as frequently.
The proposed idea is an app extension called “Tech-nically Speaking”. The purpose of the extension is to provide guidance for those less familiar with technology, and guide them through the logistics of common communication interfaces such as Zoom, Skype, and Google Meet. The app extension contains instructions and guide-alongs, and is made to be available in multiple languages.
