Inspiration

One of the insights we received from our street interviews in the Sydney CBD, was that people who were new to the city found it hard to navigate the area and difficult to make connections with people. Locals were also interested in making our cities more liveable but were unsure of how they could contribute on an individual level and fit this into their busy schedules.

What it does

Our app connects people together through community led events and encourages them to explore and learn about local restaurants that operate sustainably. Users can join or create their own event and will receive special discounts when they choose to hold an event at one of our sustainable partners. Local restaurants can highlight the good work that they do and encourage their peers to also adopt sustainable sourcing and supply operations.

How I built it

We will code it using Java and Swift but for the presentation and demo purposes, we created the UI interface of Eat2Meet using Marvel.

Challenges I ran

We were tempted to use statistics that would have supported our argument further, but the statistics were an inaccurate representation of the reality of the situation.

Additionally, as a team, the ideation process took longer than expected as we initially too solution-focused rather than focusing on our persona’s problems.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are happy that we were able to address a real pressing need concerning the Good health and Wellbeing as well as responsible consumption and production SDG’s.

What I learned

Sustainable Future Cities is a complex problem that requires a lot more attention from stakeholders. We were provided with broad problem statements and identified a solution with Eat2meet that has potential to scale with product-market fit.

What's next for Eat2Meet

We plan to get 5 more restaurants on board for our pilot program and that will launch within 6 months of commencement.
