Background

Since we chose challenge 2 in which we were tasked with creating a robot capable of navigating rough terrain and locating "survivors" in a simulated disaster scenario using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software. The robot must be able to maneuver over various obstacles, including rubble, debris, climb, and uneven surfaces. It has to be able detect survivors and have a durable design to withstand harsh conditions. We though outside of the box and chose to make a drone for our submission which we named Perseus which is named after a legendary hero from Greek mythology who is known for taking down the Gorgon Medusa.

Inspiration

The Inspiration for why we chose a drone is because someone important gave us a little hint and as for the name, well it was taken from Greek Mythology as I said above.

What it does

In the shortest way possible, Perseus uses its many cameras and small size to aid in saving the lives of people in need of saving.

How we built it

We used Tinkercad's CAD software to build Perseus. We admit that the entire project was not an original idea as we browsed previous designs done by the Tinkercad community and took some things from those and incorporated it into our drone.

Challenges we ran into

We had to brainstorm ways to make Perseus better and better which took some time. Then also came the fact that even though Tinkercad has extremely user-friendly UI, we were not proficient in the least so we had to learn how it worked while we were making Perseus. An example of a challenge we went through is that the body of the drone suddenly turned transparent and we were confused and freaking out because we had no idea what happened but we later concluded that we must have accidentally pressed a hotkey by accident.

What we learned

We learned that sometimes it is ok to take other designs from the internet if you don't know where to start or ask the internet for help. As long as you are honest with yourself and others, it is not a bad thing to start with other models and work your way from there.

What's next for Tech-a-Thon Cad Robotics Submission (Perseus)

Well, we do not really have a future plan for Perseus as it was made with a mindset of the present for this project and this project only. It really just depends on our whims on if we want to scrap it or keep it around.
