One team. One dream. One legend: Behind TecDroid

Hey, I'm Emilio and this is my first Hackathon! The organization I'm representing with my website is "TecDroid", my high school's robotics team, recognized as a pioneer in Mexican participation in high school robotics competitions —specifically the worldwide renowned FIRST Robotics Competition— while making a positive impact on marginalized groups.

More than a robotics team

TecDroid is more than just a robotics team; it’s a community dedicated to empowering students through technology and innovation. Our team designs, builds, and competes with robots in the FIRST Robotics Competition, showcasing our engineering skills and creativity.

Beyond robotics, we engage in social initiatives that support marginalized groups, providing educational workshops and resources to inspire the next generation of engineers and leaders. Through collaboration and hands-on experience, we foster a passion for STEM and make a positive impact in our community!

Getting the hands dirty: The website

Now let's get back to the website. The website I built for TecDroid serves as a digital hub that highlights our robotics team's achievements and initiatives. It showcases our participation in high-profile competitions like the FIRST Robotics Competition and our commitment to social impact through several initiatives, highlighting the 4Impact programs.

Designed with a user-friendly interface, the site features sections on our projects and community outreach, providing visitors with a detailed view of who we are and what we stand for. After countless hours of hard work and overcoming various challenges,

I aimed to create a platform that not only informs but also inspires others to join us in making a difference in the world of robotics and beyond.

The website I built showcases important elements that represent not only the organization as a whole, but our shared culture and values as Mexicans; it highlights cultural symbols, such as the "Muñeca Lele," which embodies our heritage and creativity.

Additionally, the website features a quote from our campus rector as well as our values, which emphasize our mission to inspire change and progress. I made sure to demonstrate our proud alignment with the four 4impact initiatives we developed : 4them, to help children in need; 4her, to break gender barriers in tech fields; 4all, to support individuals with disabilities; and 4us, to foster personal growth within our team.

Not everything is made out of flowers: The challenges I ran into

The biggest challenge I ran into while creating this website was the responsiveness of my design. Although I had a clear vision for how I wanted the website to look on various devices, translating that vision into code proved to be more difficult than I anticipated.

Another challenge I came across with was optimizing the website's performance, as I wanted to incorporate vibrant visuals without sacrificing loading times. Balancing design with functionality took considerable effort and testing. Despite these obstacles, I learned to approach problems with patience and creativity, ultimately leading to a more polished and user-friendly website.

Converting dreams into realities: Achievements that matter

As a member of the organization, I take immense pride in our achievements, particularly our participation in the world championship last year, which highlighted our commitment to excellence in robotics.

But, as Emilio, I am especially proud of the enormous impact we have had in our community despite being a small group of high schoolers, having changed the lives of over 1600 children and women across 11 communities in my state. For me, that's what TecDroid is about. Because we, TecDroid, can do hard things, and in Mexico, being in STEM is hard.
