Inspiration
We were inspired by the event's theme and wanted to enhance the casino theme using Arduino. Our goal was to create a simple yet engaging game that combines electronics, programming, and interactive design.
What it does
When the user presses a button, the reels spin, displaying three randomly selected symbols. If all three symbols match, the player wins.
How we built it
We used an Arduino board to control the game logic and an LCD display to show the slot results. In Arduino, custom symbols were created for the display. A push button starts the game.
Challenges we ran into
The most obvious issue was all of us lacked the electrical experience ECEs have. We never installed any hardware without running into issues at first. In addition, problems with the display, characters, buttons, and animation gave us significant difficulty.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Overall, despite our lack of expertise on the matter, we are proud we made a functional, original, and reliable final design. We worked well together and learned a lot about Arduino and electronics.
What we learned
We learned about basic Arduino, basic electronics, using libraries, troubleshooting, and team communication.
What's next for Team5SlotMachine
Next time, we will be more comfortable expanding our design capabilities. Toward the end of the project, we were in the process of implementing specialized shapes like cherries, gold bars, and diamonds, similar symbols in most slot machines.
