Inspiration
We were inspired to make taste after we went to dinner and just started talking about all of our opinions on a variety of topics. We realized there wasn’t a forum or place online where you could show off your personality and have a collection of all of your candid opinions on any genre you had interest in. So, we made Taste.
What it does
Taste is a social media platform that allows you to connect with friends and others who might share similar opinions in a variety of interests.
How we built it
We built Taste first by doing mockups on Figma to visualize how we wanted the UI to look. Then our frontend team worked on making that a reality, while the backend team provided the structure to efficiently store the data and tie all the webpages together.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was integrating the frontend and backend. For example, when the backend team got the HTML file for the login.html page we had to reformat the login inputs from GET to POST to work with our implementations for redirecting and working with the database. Ultimately, it required a restructure of the HTML file which did pose a challenge, but we got it figured out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
None of us had ever done a Hackathon before so we were all nervous and excited about the process. However, one thing was clear: we wanted to commit and go from start to finish with a project. And while it was challenging, we came together as a team and achieved the goal of creating a project that could hopefully connect people together.
What we learned
We learned to efficiently work in teams (frontend and backend) and continuously communicate expectations with each other. Additionally, we learned how to persevere through bugs by utilizing our online resources to the max.
What's next for Team Taste
We hope to add more functionalities to the app (like making a mobile app) and continue growing both the app and the team.
