With the majority of the population being visual learners, we created a resource allowing students new to astronomy to learn concise, yet educational information about our solar system.

What it does

Simulates our solar system and displays information about the celestial bodies in it

How we built it

Using Javascript, HTML and CSS

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble including orbital rings and accurately placing the objects. The UI formatting was also really difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The zoom and pan in feature. How we were able to create a model that simulates the solar system pretty similarly (not accurate though). The orbital movement is also something we're proud to have worked on.

What we learned

We learned pacing. We learned how to work in short timeframes. Not overestimating the time it takes to implement features. We learned how to create 3D objects in Javascript using Three JS.

Future hackathons. Even cooler UIs and even more content.
