🖌️ Inspiration

Our project, BridgeBank, was inspired by the Goldman Sachs prompt to create innovative financial solutions that make banking more accessible and user-friendly for people everywhere. We identified a pressing need to address the challenges faced by underserved communities, particularly in rural areas and individuals in underdeveloped or developing countries, where access to traditional banking services is often limited or nonexistent. Recognizing that financial inclusivity is not just a rural issue, we expanded our focus to cater to youth and young professionals seeking simple, affordable, and efficient banking solutions tailored to their fast-paced, digital lifestyles. This dual focus led us to develop BridgeBank, a secure, intuitive, and easy-to-navigate website that provides seamless financial services for a diverse audience.

⚙️ What it does

Our website, BridgeBank, is designed to tackle the current challenges in banking by making financial management simpler, more accessible, and user-friendly. 👩🏻‍💻 How we built it

Our journey with BridgeBank began with careful planning and collaboration. We started by creating a shared Google Doc to brainstorm and exchange ideas, focusing first on defining our target audience, which included underserved communities and tech-savvy youth. After identifying our audience, which included underserved communities and tech-savvy youth, we turned our attention to crafting efficient and reliable solutions to address their needs. Once the idea was clear, we moved to the design phase. We began by creating wireframes to outline the website's structure and functionality. These wireframes guided us in designing a user-friendly interface using Figma. Simultaneously, one team member started working on the backend using Firebase, chosen for its ability to efficiently store user data such as names, addresses, and spending information while tracking financial activity. For the front end, we used React, integrating Firebase's API to fetch and display data seamlessly on the website. This ensured real-time updates and a smooth user experience.

⛓️‍💥 Challenges we ran into

The journey of creating BridgeBank was both exciting and challenging, especially since this was the first hackathon for all team members. With no prior experience in hackathons, we encountered numerous obstacles that pushed us out of our comfort zones. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of experience in backend development. Most of the team had expertise in React or UI/UX design, but no one had ever worked on a full-stack project independently. This made diving into backend tasks particularly daunting and required significant effort to learn and implement solutions on the go. Another major hurdle was working with the Anima tool, a Figma plugin we initially planned to use for converting designs into code snippets directly. We expected this tool to simplify the process, but it turned out to be more complex than anticipated. The tool required extensive manual adjustments, meaning that we couldn’t rely solely on it to bridge the gap between design and development. This led to much of our time being spent on front-end development, meticulously translating our designs into functional components.

🤝 Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating an impactful solution to the project is something we as a team are really proud of. In spite of being our first hackathon, we managed to learn some amazing technical and soft skills. We are proud that we actually tried our level best to incorporate our idea into real-time application. In addition to this, we are proud of actually overcoming some challenges we faced during the process. We as a team manage to drive into insightful adventure.

💡What we learned

Throughout this journey, every member of our team pushed themselves out of their comfort zones, embracing challenges and new opportunities to grow. As a team, we were introduced to several new technologies, including Firebase for backend development, the Anima tool for design-to-code transitions, and foundational concepts of React for front-end development. Beyond the technical skills, this experience also helped us develop invaluable soft skills. We learned the importance of effective team building and collaboration, working together to combine our diverse skills and perspectives to achieve a common goal. Moreover, we practiced the art of presenting our project and gaining confidence in communicating our ideas and solutions clearly and effectively to others.Another crucial lesson was adapting to the fast-paced nature of a hackathon. We were introduced to the concept of working within tight deadlines, which taught us how to prioritize tasks, stay focused under pressure, and efficiently manage our time as a team.

🔭 What's next

Due to time constraints, we were able to integrate only certain features into our website, but for the next steps, we plan to incorporate AI and machine learning for trend prediction, budget planning based on spending habits, and fraud detection. We aim to enhance customer support with an AI-powered chatbot, provide an integrated toolkit and guide for users with limited digital experience, and support local merchants by fostering community-driven engagement. Additionally, we plan to include multilingual accessibility features for a more inclusive experience and may extend the website into a mobile application to offer these advanced capabilities on the go.
